The Exceptional Athlete Matters (T.E.A.M.)… this well chosen acronym and message is very meaningful, especially if you are disabled or know someone who is disabled. WORLD T.E.A.M. SPORTS is a registered nonprofit organization which encourages and fosters a sense of pride, community, accomplishment, and goal achievement through athletics for people of all abilities. My family and I have been a proud member of this organization for many years. This year, I ride my recumbent bike from Washington DC to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and my family will volunteer their time. The ride is called THE FACE of AMERICA, and it is a 501c3 approved charity event http://www.worldteamsports.org .THE FACE of AMERICA is a fundraiser, and a celebration to thank the United States armed services for all they do to keep us safe. It is also a chance for disabled riders like me to participate in a fabulous event which will raise money to help cover the costs of healthcare, and sports rehabilitation for our brave, hard-working and injured or disabled vets and active armed service members. Please join our family and supporting this much needed cause.
My family and I have been participants and very active in WORLD T.E.A.M. SPORTS. You see we have been very athletic our entire lives and have enjoyed athletics to the fullest. My husband and I have always enjoyed playing and supporting athletics. In 1997 we had a lovely daughter, and we had and still have most of our family fun participating, coaching and cheering on her teams. I am riding as part of TEAM WHO SAYS I CANT, a group of athletes of all abilities and experiences. The TEAM name is also the TEAM mission. We help facilitate positive athletic and life events in each others lives. Basically, we motivate and inspire each other through lives ups and downs. We also train, and participate in events and competitions for charity and to challenge our mind, body and soul…..
This year will be bittersweet, as we usually celebrate the end of our 110 mile journey at Crpl Seamus Garrahy’s farm and Marine Barracks. Our fabulous host won his battle with cancer, but ran out of time and passed away Monday 1/09/2012…http://worldteamsports.org/2012/seamus-garrahy/ So, this year, it is with sadness and pride that we ride for Seamus.
I am a proud third-year participant of the Face of America, and cannot wait to fundraise and cycle with some really great new friends.
The reason for my ride and for my family being part of the THE FACE OF AMERICA as volunteers is that we are part of a DISABILITY COMMUNITY. This is a proud and wonderful community, where I feel most comfortable, and we have met and are friends with some great people. The other element is that we are AMERICANS and we feel very proud to ride, celebrate life, challenge, and be part of the community which is so accepting and willing to try new things, and to raise money to assist with healthcare costs for the brave and selfless men and women of our USA armed services. We also strongly support The Exceptional Athlete Matters (T.E.A.M.), and our military. We hope that you will also help by donating to this very important and cause which is close to our hearts and souls.
Please follow my journey on Twitter @BRAINtechPLEASE. I will journal the trials and tribulations of our fabulous journey. Thank you in advance for your donations and support.
Kindest Regards,
