Join me in my efforts to support World Team Sports!
The Exceptional Athlete Matters (T.E.A.M.)… this well chosen acronym and message is very meaningful, especially if you are disabled or know someone who is disabled. WORLD T.E.A.M. SPORTS is a registered nonprofit organization which encourages and fosters a sense of pride, community, accomplishment, and goal achievement through athletics for people of all abilities. My family and I have been a proud member of this organization for many years. This year, I ride my recumbent bike from Washington DC to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and my family will volunteer their time. The ride is called THE FACE of AMERICA. http://www.worldteamsports.org .THE FACE of AMERICA is a fundraiser, and a celebration to thank the United States armed services for all they do to keep us safe. It is also a chance for disabled riders like me to participate in a fabulous event which will raise money to help cover the costs of healthcare for our brave, hard-working and injured or disabled vets and active armed service members. Please join our family and supporting this much needed cause.
My family and I have been participants and very active in WORLD T.E.A.M. SPORTS. You see we have been very athletic our entire lives and have enjoyed athletics to the fullest. My husband and I have always enjoyed playing and supporting athletics. In 1997 we had a lovely daughter, and we had and still have most of our family fun participating, coaching and cheering on her teams. I am riding as part of TEAM EDGE out of Fairfield, CT. I am a proud second-year member and cannot wait to fundraise and cycle with some really great new friends.
Oh, by the way, I may have forgotten an important part of my story or life journey. A few mishaps occurred in my life, in 2001 and 2004 which placed me into the disabled category. At first this was a very disturbing and dark realization, as our lives would never be the same. Though our lives have changed and my abilities have changed as well, The Exceptional Athlete Matters (T.E.A.M.) and some other very good nonprofits for encouragement of people of all abilities to get out and enjoy life, athletics, and challenging one’s self even in the face of adversity. We are grateful for our experience and I am riding THE FACE of AMERICA to help show other disabled people that we can achieve goals…Especially with family, friends, vets, active, abled, disabled all riding, donating, and/or cheering us on!
The reason for my ride and for my family being part of the THE FACE OF AMERICA as volunteers is that we are part of a DISABILITY COMMUNITY. This is a proud and wonderful community, where I feel most comfortable, and we have met and are friends with some great people. The other element is that we are AMERICANS and we feel very proud to ride, celebrate life, challenge, and be part of the community which is so accepting and willing to try new things, and to raise money to assist with healthcare costs for the brave and selfless men and women of our USA armed services. We also strongly support The Exceptional Athlete Matters (T.E.A.M.), and our military. We hope that you will also help by donating to this very important and cause which is close to our hearts and souls.
Please follow my journey on Twitter @BRAINtechPLEASE. I will journal the trials and tribulations of our fabulous journey. Thank you in advance for your donations and support.
